Dr. A. K. Singh


Profile

Dr. A. K. Singh , Formerly Scientist in Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Hyderabad, and holds a Ph. D degree in Physics-Metallurgical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He has been more than 35 years of research experience in Materials Characterization, Alloy Developments and Metallurgical Failure Analysis. He has been an Alexander von Humboldt fellow in the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany. He has been the elected Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Chennai and Telangana Academy of Sciences, Hyderabad. He is life member of Indian Institute of Metals, Materials research Society of India and Magnetics Society of India. He is recipient of Indian National Science Academy Young Scientist Medal (1994), DRDO Technology Group Award (2008), Materials Research Society of India Medal (2009) and National Science Day Medal (2010). He has been conferred Distinguished Alumnus Award – 2013, Department of Metallurgical Engineering, IIT (BHU), Varanasi. He has also received several best paper, poster and metallographic awards. Dr. Singh has more than 250 technical papers in international journals and conference proceedings and one patent to his credit. He has been convener of two international conferences and two workshops and edited two books. He has guided several B. Tech. (7), M. Tech. (24), M.Phil. (1) and Ph. D (7) students from Physics, Metallurgical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines.

He has led the Failure Analysis program related to Indian Armed Forces, Defence PSUs and DRDO sister laboratories and investigated more than 150 cases. His current research includes the phase transformation of titanium alloys and intermetallics, texture development in materials during deformation and recrystallisation, structural characterization by Rietveld refinement technique and nanomaterials.
